Nukunu:
Keep company with awakened teachers – that is the most direct way. I just meet an old Indian man here and he told me that his teacher had received “Jana Diksha” from Rnamana Maharshi the last moment before Ramana died. Ramana opened his eyes for the last time and looked at his disciple and the disciple “got it” immediately. “Jana” means the truth and “diksha” can be translated as blessing. Actually Ramana was not really “giving” the disciple anything. No, the truth is that Ramana was just a mirror for the same truth that was already present in the disciple. If a disciple is ready to recognize the truth, it can happen in one single moment. But nobody can give or take anything from us.
Because of ignorance, there are so many misunderstandings about the guru-disciple relationship. For example, if you meet someone who is sad you might experience sadness yourself. What is happening? Sadness is rising in you because the other person is a mirror for the feeling of sadness which is already present in you. On the other hand, if you are a person who has not experienced much sadness in life and do not have so much of it inside, you may not really feel the other person’s sadness. So my point is that the other person don´t “put” sadness into us. Still, this is what we believe when we say “ah you make me so sad!” in a blaming way. But this is not the case! The truth is that the other person becomes a mirror for the sadness in us; and then we blame the mirror! How ridiculous. This ignorant behavior is called “projecting”!
If we meet an awakened person he or she is a mirror for the same space in us. But 99.99 percent of humanity has moved far away from that in themselves. They are totally identified with the ego-personality, so they will not recognize the mirroring! They will see the teacher’s space of presence as something different from themselves. Maybe there will be admiration, but that will not help a disciple to wake up. Admiration creates separation and duality.
All our questions disappear when we realize that there actually is no separated “me” to ask questions. We realize a space that is both the question and the questioner! This is experienced as oneness with everything.
Go inwards and meditate. As your longing becomes deeper you will be taken to the point where you can awaken.
